How Pensions Work
A pension for a state employee generally is based on an average of the employee’s three highest 12-month periods of pay.
Most state troopers, prison guards and other state employees with hazardous jobs are eligible to receive pensions equal to half of that average after 20 years, plus 2 percent of the average for each additional year. Source
